Inspirational Saying of the Day: Words Are Magic

I have just returned from my wedding, and I wanted to share a lesson I got from my own vows: Words are Magic.

We often write, say, and hear words without thinking much about the power behind them. However, we have always, instinctively known that words have power to shape the world around us and to change things even deep inside us.

I pondered the power of words to shape reality when writing my vows to my husband. The result was something more moving than I had imagined, as everyone at the ceremony felt the magic of positive words.

As I open FoxontheRocks.org for the preview event, I wanted to share my vows with you so you too can understand the magic we wield when speaking, reading, and hearing words. Keep this in mind as you select what words you read, listen to, and speak.

Vows to My Husband

While thinking about what I wanted to promise you today, I remembered something I learned while studying prosody, which is the acoustical elements of speech and how they shape human reality. The words we speak are not passive. They carry intention. They move through the world and leave traces: biological responses in the listener, subtle shifts in the physical conditions of the space around us, and micro-shifts in the social reality we share. These effects have been measured, documented, and proven with empirical evidence. The conclusion drawn is simple and profound:

Words are a form of magic.

Today, I want to use that magic to shape our love, our life, and the reality we build together. To do that, I vow three things.

First, I vow to use the power of my words to bless you. I will speak kindly of you. I will name your strengths. I will express gratitude for your presence in my life and for the ways you contribute to our world. May these words bring you joy, remind you of your brilliance, and help you stay anchored in the goodness and power within you.

Second, I vow to use the power of my words to protect you. I will defend you when the world feels harsh. I will guide you when shadows gather. I will offer comfort when life becomes heavy. May these words shield you from chaos and help keep the foundation of our relationship steady and strong.

Finally, I vow to use the power of my words to enchant you. I will speak words that spark your mind, warm your heart, and draw you close. I will speak words that make you laugh, words that deepen our connection, and words that keep our love evolving as we grow old-er together. May these words keep us curious, delighted, and excited to explore the universe side by side.

The words we speak will shape us. They will bless our marriage and the future we create.

This is my vow to you, as your wife.
